Joelle + Drew
Ghost Town Romance
As seen in The New York Times.
For a couple who’s ideal vacation is road tripping to abandoned ghost towns, to have Bread Bar in Silver Plume host their wedding was not even a question. Joelle and Drew had spent many hours in this tiny town enjoying its’ “living ghost town” qualities from the coffee shop down the road to the enjoying many New York Sours on the Bread Bar’s back patio in the summer and everything in between.
Joelle and Drew care deeply for nostalgia, impactful details and creating a space where everyone felt special.
From handwritten notes thanking the 50 of their closest family & friends, to significant details paying tribute to their hometowns and the town itself showing their gratitude…no important detail was forgotten.
Joelle and her best friend, Rachel, custom designed all the letter press stationery with meaningful design. The historic bread bar to rep their venue, a minor to represent the town’s history & geometric line to reflect Joelle and Drew’s simplistic style.
Joelle knew that she wanted to get ready in a place that had charm and felt like home. The Dove Inn located in Golden, Colorado was the perfect location for their anticipated moments getting ready before their first look at Guanella Pass near Georgetown, Co.
Believe it or not, this was JUNE 26, 2019. The weather was beautiful all month & we were all enjoying summer days until this week! Forecasts called for snow that morning and a drizzly evening. It sounds unfortunate, but everyone embraced it for the perfect, undeniable intimacy it brought. It could not have been more perfect.
Silver Plume’s often-deserted streets are lined with colorful Victorian houses built during the silver-mining boom of the 1800s and early 1900s…perfect for these two to say their “I DOs”
A Year of Postcards
They opt’d out of a traditional guest book and provided vintage postcards of national parks and memorabilia for guests to write sweet congratulations to the lovers. The bride’s mother collected the cards and plans to mail one every week or so to the couple throughout their first year of marriage.
The MINUTE the ceremony was scheduled to start…DOWN POUR RAIN. Yup, but guess what, it’s Colorado, & we roll with it. We opened the bar, (can you ever go wrong with cocktails?) and 15 minutes later the storm passed and THIS fogged mountain overlook was their backdrop.
Just need love & TOPO CHICO.
Natural, Raw, & Intimate
Pussy Willow Clouds
Joelle wanted to make sure she paid tribute to her home town in Vermont by including pussy willows (which her mom and friends foraged & shipped from home) and a variety of famous Vermont cheeses and maple syrup incorporated in the charcuterie spread.
Joelle sewed the table runners for the reception with the help of her mother and grandmother.
Long time quilters & a special token from her grandmother who couldn’t travel to attend the day.
At cocktail hour, Joel and Drew’s served their favorite drink - A New York Sour.
It was important to the couple that each guest felt valued and thanked for attending such an intimate celebration.
During cocktail hour, each guest searched a vintage index card drawer to find a personalized thank you note from the couple on cards embossed with the image of a miner carrying a pickax and a shovel. In addition, it contained a vintage hotel tag with their corresponding seat - a token for guests to take home & cherish the day forever.
Later, everyone gathered in a clear tent next to the bar for a family style dinner that included one of their favorite dishes, tri-tip steak with chimichurri. As it rained around them, this small crew managed to stay cozy giving toasts and laughing loudly while surrounded by empty buildings.
Joelle and Drew brought life, light and love to this tiny town that night.
You could hear the tunes across the street and feel the love for miles.
